So… how did all this happen?

I’ve been making things for most of my life.

Long before there were Mind Monkeys, there was Dizzy Daisies — a little hippy shop I started in Coventry back in 1990, which somehow turned into more than three decades of making, selling, travelling, festivals, markets and assorted creative adventures.

Somewhere along the way came My Happy Soul — a place for the things I’d become increasingly fascinated by: presence, mindfulness, meditation, possibility, and why our own minds can make being a human quite so unnecessarily complicated.

And then I decided to write a book.

This was supposed to be quite straightforward.

It was not. 😂

During the writing, the noisy thoughts I’d been talking about began acquiring names and personalities.

Anxious Annie appeared. Retro Ronnie started rummaging through the past. Eddie the Ego had opinions about absolutely everything.

Before long, I had a ship full of monkeys, a little chap called Bo, a planner, a Beach House and considerably more imaginary colleagues than I’d ever intended.

Apparently I have monkeys now.

And somehow, Mind Monkey Mischief was born.

Underneath all the silliness, though, there’s something I care about very much.

I don’t believe we need to become perfectly calm, perfectly positive or perfectly anything.

Sometimes we just need to notice when our minds have wandered off with us, take a breath, and come back to the life that’s happening right now.

That’s what the book is about.

And that’s what this little corner of the internet is about too.

So have a wander. Open cupboards. Listen to the radio. Rummage through the desk. Meet the monkeys.

The kettle’s usually on.
